SEI FTC Team
SEI is looking for students in grades 8th-11th that has an interest in learning engineering principles, while developing problem-solving, organizational and team-building skills.
FTC is designed for those who want to compete head-to-head, using a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming a robot to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
Students get to:
- Design, build, and program robots
- Apply real-world math and science concepts
- Develop problem-solving, organizational, and team-building skills
- Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
- Earn a place in the World Championship
- Qualify for close to $7 million in college scholarships
Students also will have the opportunity to win a variety of awards for being on the team:
- Inspire Award – team that takes on challenges well beyond the program
- Winning Alliance Award – alliance represented in the final match of competition
- Finalist Alliance Award – 3 teams in the final match of competition
- PTC Design Award – team with the most compelling industrial design elements
- Connect Award – team most connected to the local and engineering community
- Innovate Award – team with the most ingenuity and inventiveness
- Motivate Award – outstanding team spirit and enthusiasm
- Think Award – team that best manages the design engineering process
The SEI FTC Team will begin meeting in March 2010, on Saturdays, 12-5pm.
